Welcome to the MuseumsPosten

By Christian Kofoed-Enevoldsen

The postal service was established in 1624 by Christian IV. Telecommunications came about in 1854 with the introduction of the electric telegraph. The optical telegraph had been introduced already in 1801. For centuries the post and telegraph service has been a part of everyday life in Denmark, and the development within fields of activity, equipment, uniforms, etc. forms an exciting supplement to Danish history.

The Danish Post & Telegraph Museum in 9, Valkendorfsgade, Copenhagen, contains among many other things Denmark’s finest collection of postage stamps, uniforms, mail bags, telegraph and telephone equipment collected through the years.

With the publication of the new magazine "MuseumsPosten" the Danish Post & Telegraph Museum wishes to expand the knowledge of and interest in the museum and its activities to a wider audience and at the same time tell the background stories of some of the museum’s objects etc. in historical articles. The magazine is expected to appear three times a year and will be sent to all subscribers free of charge.

Memories of bygone days or the exact historical development? The approach is of minor importance because there are treats for everybody at the museum. It is my hope that the "MuseumsPosten will contribute to increase the interest in the Danish Post & Telegraph Museum. So please drop in – we will be happy to share our treasures with others!
