The Time Machine on the Front Stairs
If you choose the museum’s front stairs instead of the lift, a special experience is in store for you. Artist Stig Weye, who has also painted the museum poster "The Whole World is Talking", has illustrated the history of communication in space and time up through the entire stairway. Stig Weye’s paintings are appear as an artistic guide to what is happening on the individual floors of the museum.
In Stig Weye’s first painting we find ourselves in the universe – and you can surf in the infinite on the computers on first floor of the museum, the B@lcony. Here first-time users of all ages have the possibility of getting an introduction to the internet.
Further upstairs Stig Weye is showing us landscapes swarming with life. The first one shows the 20th century with the busy postal service ongoing telephone conversations. The postmen are so preoccupied with their work that they do not see the precipice. They fall down turning a somersault through time. There are all kinds of communication: letters, towers, telephone wires, wireless signals, and an old mail coach. On the second floor we recognize the Radio Tower of Skamlebæk and an old-fashioned telephone pole with an unusual bustle. You have to explore on your own and see what is hiding.
At the entrance to the museum’s exhibition floor noble civil servants on top of a lighthouse are overlooking the country where they see various characters. Farthest to the right stands an old man and bids a hearty welcome. Maybe it is King Christian the 4th who founded the postal service about 375 years ago.
